The phone also supports Phase Detection Autofocus. While the rear camera does sport a standard LED, the front facing camera packs one as well, making it easier for you to click pictures in dimly-lit situations.

Micromax brings its proprietary camera UI to its Canvas 5 that resembles the design language of previous generations of Samsung and LG smartphones. The shutter button is flanked by a camcorder button to start recording video and a shortcut to the gallery(indicated by a thumbnail of the most recently picture). To the opposite side are four buttons for settings, shooting mode, flash and toggling between front and rear cameras. The settings icon houses shutter triggers(smile shutter and touch shutter), geo-tagging, shutter sound, self timer, grid-overlays, shutter delay and options to select the size and quality of the output along with an option to restore defaults. The shooting modes present here are titled Normal, Professional, Panorama, Face Beauty, HDR, Night, Sports and DualView; each being indicative of its function. Our verdict here is that the UI is functionally sound and satisfactory overall but lacks any form of novelty.

The cameras on the Canvas 5 are admirable performers. Colour accuracy was on-point and so was the focus. Focus times are certainly helped with the inclusion of Phase Detection Autofocus. The one area where the Canvas 5 does underperform is when there are challenging light sources(the picture of the tree); but, to be fair, all phones suffer from this problem. The front-facing camera is a solid performed too-preserving skin tones perfectly well. For the price this phone is offered, we are pleased with the performance of the Canvas 5’s camera. It isn’t better than other competitors in any regard(other than the fact that the front camera is supported by an LED) but it isn’t worse than them either. You will be a happy customer do decide to pick this one up.
Conclusion
The Micromax Canvas 5 camera is a solid performer, rounding off every corner in a well balanced way. The lighting scenarios we threw at it were handled well by the camera with natural, true-to-life shots being produced nearly every time. The cameras present on this phone are sure to not let you down or fall behind the pack when compared to other smartphones in this price range.
